But Brokeback Mountain missed the top award. There were some Oscar surprises, but plenty of political agenda (as usual)... not always very subtle.

CRASH UPSETS "MOUNTAIN": Though Ang Lee won Best Director for "Brokeback" and makes a pro-gay statement. (Take that, all of you who say there was no "message" with this "love story".) Usually the Director Award leads to that person's film being "best". Not this year. Not that "Crash" is the feel-good movie of the year... but an upset that throws off Hollywood agenda-driven decisions is fascinating.
