THE REPORT HITS THE FAN
And already Dems are grumbling that there's no "magic bullet" to end the Iraq war: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20061206/ts_nm/iraq_dc They (and their media buddies) are also frustrated that Bush might "dig in his heels" and get "stubborn" about the Iraq Study Group's recommendations, sticking to his own plan. Already some network gurus are twisting the report with their headlines. Tim Russert said this morning that "Iraq is a mess". No, the report said it is a "dire and grave situation" where things are coming apart. It's a frank assessment of the situation, but much of what the experts are analyzing isn't news. And some things the left expected aren't part of these tablets brought down by the political Moses: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,234667,00.html
Generalization doesn't help. Baghdad's a big problem, but a majority of provinces are still better off. And how long will it take before someone asks the question: "Haven't the Dems increased the problem by fueling the insurgency with their anti-American rhetoric over the past year or two?" The answer, of course, is "YES". There are many left-wing politicians who care only about a continuing crisis so they can hang it around Bush's neck for his legacy. And they care more about their political fortunes than freedom. In the meantime, Bush needs to demonstrate that he still knows how to lead. Time to stop caving in to the so-called grownups who are his Daddy's friends and do the right thing. If not, he risks becoming the Republican's Jimmy Carter.
