CREATING TERRORISTS
Today's suicide bombing at Bagram Airbase in Afghanistan (Taliban trying to hit VP Cheney) points out the continuing challenges in that country. It also brings to mind the issue of terrorists themselves. How are they trained to "sacrifice" themselves and innocent bystanders? How does the "radicalization process" work? Here's a report that sheds light on the subject: www.cnsnews.com/ViewCulture.asp?Page=/Culture/archive/200702/CUL20070227b.htmlBy the way: Today's bombing isn't likely the "spring offensive". That happens later in March when the snows melt. I was in Afghanistan as things ramped up last spring... read my blog entries and see photos by going to "search this blog" option above and typing in "Afghanistan".

FLAGS NEEDING UPDATES
The San Diego County flag looks too much like Mexico's. And the city flag isn't much better:

Not only did the Hollywood community's Oscar telecast feature fawning praise of Gore's global warming views, but Cuba is also chiming in with kiss-up warmth toward the former VP: news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070225/media_nm/oscars_cuba_gore_dc_1

There's a war on and we have growing concern over border security... who-is-coming-in-with-what... and now we're going to allow Mexican trucking companies to go wherever they want in the USA: http://wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=54411 Sounds dangerous, especially when considering how a majority of air cargo and ocean shipping isn't inspected fully as it is. So we're going to increase the problem of potential threats? Hello? Any leadership on this issue?

THE WAY IT SHOULD BE
Cheney says the USA keeps all options open in the War on Terrorism: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=2897919&page=1 Amen. Glad to hear this... and we should hear such things more often from the Bush administration. Iran often does a better job reminding people that they will do what's in their best interest, so we'd better articulate the same. Daily.

MEXICAN ADVENTURE
Some people have ask why we're on a cruise to Mexico of all places, especially considering the current tensions over illegal immigration. My friend Kirby Wilbur (also on this cruise in our Young America's Foundation group) says he sees it like this: "Spend our money here, help
them get jobs and stay here". Works for me. Spent Sunday in YAF conference sessions where a highlight was former Attorney General Ed Meese's message, "Is Conservatism Dead?" He was optimistic about being a conservative but not as upbeat about the state of the Republican party. Lots of work to do. (We're really enjoying spending some private time with the Meeses and other key members of this group.)
This is a fascinating group of supporters of YAF and the Reagan Ranch, and I'm honored to be one of the speakers. Quite a fine line-up of stars, too, such as longtime Reagan Secret Service agent John Barletta, Floyd and MaryBeth Brown, Ron Robinson, Michelle Easton and others. In between seeing the sights (like Cabo yesterday and Mazatlan today... Puerta Vallarta tomorrow) there are various seminar sessions providing an insider's view on current events. For more information on these speakers and the the numerous events and conferences sponsored by the organization year-round, visit www.yaf.org
Highlights in tourism-land today: Discovering that Mexico has way too many police forces... one for tourists, one for general security, the Federales (can't find anyone who trusts them) and a couple more different groups including one on anti-gang detail. They says there's not much of a problem with gangs here... meaning they're doing a fine job or, more likely, members have migrated northward. Mazatlan will close down for Mardi Gras-style decadence this evening, about the time we're fleeing and sailing southward. But great weather prevails and it's a wonderful time to refresh and re-energize for the big political challenges ahead.
Pulling My Hair Out, Dept: The only "news" available on the ship's TV system is CNN International.. bring just about as much joy to me as being forced to watch Al Jazeera.

AHOY!
We're off for the next week on the Young America's Foundation cruise to the Mexican Riviera, benefitting YAF and the Reagan Ranch. I'll be speaking on the cruise, as will luminaries such as former Reagan Attorney General Ed Meese and longtime RR Secret Service agent John Barletta. For info on the organization and the great work they're doing to drive the left crazy on college campuses, go to www.yaf.org I'll check in occasionally from the ship with Blog updates. Guest-hosting on the Larson radio show will be Mark Williams and Lou Pate, February 19-23 on Newsradio 600 KOGO and www.kogo.com
THE HOUSE CHEERS THE ENEMY
A majority of Members of Congress voted for the "non-binding resolution" to "send a message to the President". Translation: They sent a message to the enemy and that is HANG ON..WE'RE OUTTA THERE SOON! Talk about aiding the terrorists. It's sickening. THe good news is that two Democrats had the guts to vote against the bill and only 17 Republicans strayed into appeasement-land. THE MUSLIM CONNECTION
Why are network newscasts ignoring the Muslim connection in the Utah mall shooting? More info: http://newsbusters.org/node/10842 While CBS has mentioned that the now-dead killer was a Bosnian immigrant, NBC only pointed out that people acquainted with the man said he was "a regular guy". Well, maybe so... until something or someone caused him to go over the edge. At least they've covered the actions of the heroic off-duty police officer (from outside Salt Lake jurisdiction) who kept the carnage from being worse.
TURNING UP THE HEAT
What pressure is the Mexican government trying to exercise in illegal immigration cases? One Congressman demands some answers: http://wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=54268
Meanwhile, what (if anything) is the U.S. government doing to release the unfairly imprisoned Border Patrol agents? There were White House rumors yesterday that Ramos and Compean were having charges against them dismissed. Now that appears to be untrue. Or... was it a "trial balloon" being tested by the Bush administration?

...anyone will have the guts to ask the President about the Ramos/Compean issue: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17146548/ Don't hold your breath. The word from the White House yesterday was that the administration did not intend to review transcripts of the case, even though Press Secretary Tony Snow told me otherwise just a couple of weeks ago. THANKS FOR THE SUCCESS...
Now, you're outta here. So say the San Diego Chargers about winning coach Marty Schottenheimer: http://www.10news.com/sports/10993872/detail.html This a month after offering him a contract extension. More saber-rattling today: www.news24.com/News24/World/News/0,9294,2-10-1462_2067017,00.html And Ahmadinejad promises "the world will know" something significant and new from Iran on Sunday. ISN'T THIS UNCANNY?
American Idol just happened to open tonight with a piece featuring Frankie Laine's classic song "Rawhide". Of course the TV show was produced long before word came down late today about Laine's passing. He was a very talented class act, and a big part of our San Diego community for many years. I had the honor of working with him at some events over the years. He was a giant in the music business, and kept doing what he loved doing as long as he could. God bless him.
