WHICH FIRE WAS WORSE?

THE BATTLE CONTINUES

Now some GOP'ers are tuning in to what we've been talking about for weeks: the controversial Law of the Sea Treaty:http://www.washingtontimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071026/NATION/110260097/1001

CONTROVERSY HEATS UP

LOADS-O-STRESS

A new poll notes that a third of all Americans live with extreme stress:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,304957,00.html
That's not a bulletin to those of us in Southern California where this week's fires have moved the needle into the red zone. Of course extra stress can come from watching too much Katie Couric or digging into Rep Charlie Rangel's new tax plan.

THE LATEST ON SAN DIEGO FIRES

http://www.sdcountyemergency.com/

HOW DID ALL THIS HAPPEN? Investigations still continue with no definitive word yet, but from the archives comes a terrorist angle---- predicted back in the summer of 2003:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2003-07-11-alqaeda-fire_x.htm I have no doubt that at least SOME of the So Cal fires were started intentionally. By whom? Time will tell.

MEANWHILE, AGUIRRE'S OUTTA CONTROL: No containment of him expected soon. Now we find he was advocating a complete evacuation of San Diego earlier this week:

SAN DIEGO FIRE UPDATE

TIME TO PRAY

Here we go again: The San Diego County fires are out of control, in a situation that may be the worst fire in local history. More fire updates: www.kusi.com (our television partner) High winds and low visibility are making air drops unavailable: http://voiceofsandiego.org/articles/2007/10/22/news/01afire102207.txt
The fires of 2003 were horrible enough. Now this. Lord help us.

WELL THEN, HURRY UP

Scientists are working to try to "direct" hurricanes... so maybe they could speed up the process and help douse the expanding Southern California wildfires: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/10/21/wstorm121.xml
I think it's going to be a long week here in So Cal. It's also the fourth anniversary of the horrible Cedar Fire here that destroyed over 2,000 homes here in San Diego County. The weather forecast is very similar to what we experienced in 2003.

TIME FOR PETE STARK TO GO

Off to "Happy Acres" for treatment after his offensive comment about how the President gets his "amusement": http://www.cnsnews.com/ViewPolitics.asp?Page=/Politics/archive/200710/POL20071019b.html

TIME TO SHOOT UP: Another sign of the decay of civilization as San Francisco considers "injection rooms" where drug addicts can get their fixes in a nice, comfy environment... under "medical supervision" of course: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,303425,00.html

IS OUR CHILDREN LEARNING, DEPT.

GW Bush's timeless education question works here: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,303058,00.html
Portland, Maine school officials approve not only free condoms for kids but now birth control prescriptions, too...without having to tell parents. And we're befuddled by why students aren't excelling in math and science. Duh.

SAY GOODBYE TO MOM AND DAD

Referring to them might be considered hate speech in California:
http://wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=58185 Did Gov. Ahhhnold really know what he was signing?

SO MUCH FOR NATIONAL HEALTH

The Brits love their socialized medicine so much that they're pulling their own teeth:

GOV.AHHHHNOLD'S EXTRA-BUSY

He signed loads of bills over the weekend, and (for the moment) kept marriage "one man, one woman" in California: http://www.dailynews.com/news/ci_7172629 Still plenty of work (and lobbying) to do. Note to the legislature: Do some real work and stop the miniscule stuff and social engineering, too.

DOES BILL CLINTON KNOW ABOUT THIS? A California dentist claims his breast-fondling was understandable: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,301710,00.html For medical purposes only, hmmm?

WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

The British pose a question about values and time use: livenews.com.au/Articles/2007/10/12/Asteroid_about_to_
If an asteroid was about to hit earth in 60 minutes, what would YOU do? I guess this type of dilemma puts Al Gore's dire warnings into perspective.

GOREBASM: So now Al Gore's won the Nobel Peace Prize... after his Oscar and Emmy. They're created a monster. A run for the White House next?

NOT THE MOTHER OF THE YEAR: The allegations are that a 14 year-old home schooler built an arsenal so he could execute a Columbine-style attack: http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/10/12/student.arsenal/
If this was the perverbial "cry for help", didn't his mother sense something was up, say, six months into the YEAR he worked on the plan... or how about when she bought him another gun to add to the pile of "stuff" on display in his room? Makes Brittney Spears look like a saint.

BUY A LOTTO TICKET OR YOU'LL GET SICK

Wait a minute... I thought the California lottery was going to help education (remember the ad slogan of "our schools win, too"?) Now Governor Ahhnold wants to use the lotto to help pay for everyone's HEALTH insurance: http://www.mercurynews.com/news/ci_7134424
New ad spin could be: Buy a ticket.. or die!

HEY YOU KIDS! GET OFF MY LAWN!

I'm practicing "things grandparents say". Thanks to my son Brandon and his lovely wife Tiffany, Mrs. Larson and I are now grandma and grandpa for the first time. A healthy, big baby boy was born this AM (to be named in moments) and all is well, thank God. So, I'm ready to serve as Grandpa... even though, at 52, I know what MY Dad must have felt like when we did the same thing to him.. at 43! Ah, youngsters all.

LAW ENFORCEMENT GAMES

I'm betting the LA "competition" isn't isolated: http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-games4oct04,0,3881557.story?coll=la-home-center I can hear the lawyers lining up now.

WHAT SURPRISE? The La Jolla landslide problems point out an unavoidable truth: We all make choices. Choosing to live in an area prone to geologic shifts isn't government's fault. But that won't stop lawsuits.

SHE GETS IT: Rep. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee has been a leader in the fight against illegal immigration...long before other members of Congress in the Southwest started hopping on the bandwagon. She's also right with her anti-tax stance: http://blackburn.house.gov/

IN THE BELLY OF THE BEAST

Well, inside the Beltway, anyway. I resolve to only stay in Washington, DC no more than three days so I don't "grow" like former conservatives who go to the Supreme Court, becoming left-wingers. I'm LIVE from DC today, tomorrow and Wednesday from one of the bastions of reason in DC, the Heritage Foundation. Here's where they stand on issues: http://www.heritage.org/WhereWeStand/
