A "celebrity", that is... bigger than Ms. Spears or even Paris Hilton. So John McCain's people do an ad that highlights this fact. And that's what has Senator Obama's media pals whining: http://newsbusters.org/blogs/brent-baker/2008/07/30/nets-agitated-mccains-nasty-childish-anti-obama-attack-ad

YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK
Before politicians try to raise taxes, how about making sure what's being spent now isn't, well, dumb. How about $1Million plus so far for "Hookah research"... in SYRIA: www.cnsnews.com/public/content/article.aspx?RsrcID=33087

NOW HE WANTS TO CHANGE THE WORLD
Is there no limit to Barack Obama's super-human powers? Here's the full text of his Berlin speech today: realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/07/a_world_that_stands_as_one.html
It's one thing to watch him deliver such remarks... he is tremendous and full of charisma when he's in his "on mode" (with teleprompter)... but it's quite another to read what he said... and think about all of the ramifications of where he wants to go. Then for added perspective, find a copy of his entire unscripted press conference this week. What a study in contrasts.

MORE MEDIA LOVE
It would be even funnier if it wasn't so true. The media obsession with Barack Obama continues, and now it's a heart-warming music video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfogMFL7UJo

GOOD SAMARITAN, RIP
First it was the East Coast story of the hospital waiting room... a woman died, fell flat on her face on the floor and other people sat around ignoring the situation. Now there's this from the lovely beaches of Italy, where sunbathers didn't want to be bothered by two drowned girls, sprawled out near them: www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/07/21/italy.drowning/index.html

MORE ADORATION OF THE OBAMA
All three main network anchors will follow Barack Obama to Iraq and Afghanistan next week:
http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/07/17/america/17anchors.php Note how little the nets covered McCain's many visits, and how what's up now looks like Royal wedding coverage.
THEY FIXED IT: With pressure brought to bear, the La Raza convention website people finally fixed the McCain speech link that was going to Obama's remarks. Only took over a day to redirect it. Read what the Arizona Senator said here:

A CONSPIRACY?
The National Council of La Raza had the big convention in San Diego, highlighted by speeches from Obama and McCain. They adored Obama much more than McCain, and apparently the NCLR webmaster does too. McCain's speech showed up in listings over 24 hours after he spoke to La Raza, while Obama's speech was posted minutes after it was delivered on Sunday. As of this morning, McCain's remarks are listed but his link connects to Obama's speech. Obama's link isn't working: nclr.org/section/events/conference/about_conference1/2008_annual_
Coincidence or conspiracy? Hmmm. (BTW: If the link now works, they adjusted aftert his posting on LarsonBlog).

A HOT ROOM
John McCain faced the heated questions at La Raza's national convention in San Diego. There's no winning with this group if you're a Republican: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080714/pl_nm/usa_politics_mccain_dc
On La Raza's website, Obama's speech was posted quickly after he delivered it. As of this morning, McCain's remarks are yet to be added.

GOD BLESS TONY SNOW
The news hit me like a freight train. Former Fox News anchor and White House Press Secretary Tony Snow passed away today. I knew he was again battling cancer in recent weeks and I had spoken to him not long before things took a turn for the worst. But I don't think any of us in his wide circle of friends expected he wouldn't bounce back this time. What a shock. Here's just a sampling of his career and legacy:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,381250,00.html
I join so many people who don't just mourn a national figure but a great friend as well. We first met at a Cal Thomas/Media Fellowship dinner in Washington, DC in the mid-1990s. (Cal remembers Tony: http://foxforum.blogs.foxnews.com/2008/07/12/a-man-who-loved-his-family-and-his-god/ ) He was a frequent guest on my radio show, including at on-site White House broadcasts. Tony often allowed me to borrow his Fox News studio for my own show when I was in the Nation's Capital on business. He also introduced me to many network contacts who remain friends to this day.
MORE REMEMBRANCES OF TONY: http://www.foxnews.com/video2/video08.html?maven_referralObject=2252619&maven_referralPlaylistId=&sRevUrl
We also kept in touch regularly, and he was always interested in faith and family more than just politics. He was consistently friendly, open and encouraging. During his first bouts with cancer, a phone call to encourage him would turn into siuation where Tony did the encouraging. We also connected well since we're nearly the same age (within two months), and we often joked about that. He also left memories no one would expect, such as his constant hassling about my hair, telling people it was a hairpiece. In the midst of my interview with Donald Rumsfeld at the White House he playfully messed with me on the subject (and messed up my non-rug hair), including after I'd "thrown him out of the guest chair" to squeeze in the Secretary of Defense.

Tony often talked about his faith and never hid it. He appreciated every prayer from all around the world. He didn't hide his Bible to be politically correct. Now all of us who prayed for him so often need to continue doing do for his loving wife Jill and three wonderful children. God bless him. I will miss him deeply.

OBSERVING THE OBVIOUS
Iran test fires missles that could hit U.S. bases and Israel: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,378324,00.html
Obama reacts on TV today noting his concern over such things. No kidding. We also now know (thanks to the Access Hollywood interview of the entire Obama family) that the Illinois Senator loves minty gum. So glad to hear that, since a face-to-face negotiation with Ahmadinejad would work much better without halitosis.
