REMEMBERING WALLY SCHIRRA

One of the true American heroes, Walter M. Schirra, Jr. and his crew splashed down in Apollo 7, forty years ago today. It was the first manned Apollo flight, and without the mission America would have never gone to the moon. He was one of the original Mercury 7 astronauts, a longtime San Diego resident and good friend. After his passing last year the ARCS Foundation (Achievement Rewards for College Scientists) San Diego chapter establish the Wally Schirra Memorial Endowment Scholarship.
