HAPPY NEW YEAR!

As we move into 2010, let's take a moment to rise above the day-to-day news, arguments and challenges... focusing on the bigger picture. Some thoughts on where we've been and where we're going, in my current newspaper column:
christianexaminer.com/Articles/Articles%20Jan10/Art_Jan10_oped1.html (Warning: If you're a "non-believer", you may still find some principles in the piece that apply to daily life)

HOW ABOUT SOME LEADERSHIP

Instead of "monitoring" terrorists, how about some action, too? And with all due respect, Mr. President, when you say you're committed to keeping Americans safe, can you do that without reading it? From the heart, please, with passion?

STOP THEM...

... from making too many laws. California politicians put 700 or so new laws into effect on New Year's Day. This is considered a "light" year with fewer new regs. Here's just a few:

SENATE: A LUMP OF COAL IN AMERICA'S STOCKING

As expected, Harry Reid & company slam through the healthcare mess, while pronouncing it good.
Reid was so tired he accidentally voted "no" before changing his vote. The good news is the fight now moves to the House... and the American people are wising up on this issue. Merry Christmas!

THIS WEEK IN HISTORY...

Ah, those were the days. 1968 was an awful year, but the tremendous success of Apollo 8 brought fresh hope to so many Americans. The boldness of the astronauts in reading from the Bible made it even better (despite cries of foul from America's leading atheist, Ms. O'Hair). The voices you hear, in order, are Frank Borman, Jim Lovell and Bill Anders. Learn more about the mission here: nasm.si.edu/collections/imagery/apollo/as08/a08sum.htm
Merry Christmas!

TAXPAYER SUPPORT FOR ABORTION

Oh, it's in the healthcare takeover bill.

NOW HE SAYS IT

President Obama now talks about how we can't spend tax dollars like Monopoly money. And how it was business-as-usual in DC before he arrived to save the day. Uh, did he notice what happened with vote buying over the weekend? Then he tries to go back and blame Bush while being deceptive about the real numbers. Does anyone in this administration have a calculator? Or an ounce of truth? Talk about audacity!

ON KUSI-TV THIS MORNING

Talking about Sen. Ben Nelson's sell-out on healthcare... and more.

HE'S GOT TO BE KIDDING

Unfortunately he's not. And he says critics of the healthcare takeover are just anti-Obama, too. You've got to see this. I agree with Sen. Lindsey Graham (for once) who says this attitude (and money for votes) is why people hate members of Congress.

AND THE WINNERS ARE...

SO MUCH FOR BACKBONE

Looks like Sen. Nelson from Nebraska was strongly anti-taxes-for-abortions (in the healthcare bill)... just until the Administration bought him off with "pork for the homefront" (like Louisiana). Character's in very short supply in DC.

AS HEARD ON TODAY'S RADIO SHOW

Right up their with Yogi's "Yust Go Nuts" song. Some fun classics that help take our minds of the real nutters making policy in politics.

SAY WHAT?

The President recently told Republican Rep. Mike Pence (and others at a White House meeting)to "stop scaring people" on issues. Now Mr. Obama says we must pass the healthcare monstrosity or the country will go bankrupt.

HEALTH CARE SHOCKERS

WITH HUMILITY (AND CHIN UP?)

The President accepts his Nobel Peace Prize: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2009/12/barack-obama-nobel-peace-prize-speech-text.html At least he mentions "evil".

OOPS

The Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) accidentally posts secret security procedures on the internet. Of course an "investigation is underway".
Another fine example of how government would "protect" our medical information in the event of (heaven forbid) "Obamacare"?

OR, MAYBE WE JUST SAVE THE MONEY?

Some of the TARP money is being "paid back" to the Government. Now the President wants to spend this money we don't have on other "stimulus" projects:
http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-obama-jobs9-2009dec09,0,2294885.story
Oh, and all of the reason we're in this mess is Bush's fault. So we're told. Often.

DO AS THEY SAY...

WE REMEMBER

Pearl Harbor, on this day... December 7, 1941. I can't help but wonder how today's leaders would react to such an attack, and how the legions of lawyers and media would spin the challenges. In a big case of bad timing, on this day three U.S. Navy Seals will face courts-martial for nabbing one of the worst terrorists: www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=34710

HE DID SOMETHING RIGHT

The President's plan to add 30,000 troops isn't what the top general wanted, but close enough. No, he didn't mention "victory" and laid out an 18 month timeline, but it's better than what core lefties wanted him to do. The fact that Matthews, Olberman, Maddow et al are cranky about the decision speaks volumes: http://newsbusters.org/blogs/jeff-poor/2009/12/02/matthews-calls-cheney-ankle-biter-backtracks-west-point-enemy-camp-claim We'll now see if the rhetoric matches reality.
