MEXICO ON THE BRINK...

BIG BOX BATTLE

The San Diego City Council debates "big box" stores today, and the unions are increasing pressure. Doesn't the idea of government restricting business churn your stomach?

ON TO CYBER MONDAY!

So the experts tell us. This is the day when shoppers go berserk on the internet. We'll see. In the meantime, results are mixed about "Black Friday", when retail outlets are expected to be in-the-black, bigtime: http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/11/26/business/ibrief.php There was lots of store traffic, but that doesn't guarantee the moolah: news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20061126/bs_nm/retail_holiday_outlook_dc_2

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

It's a day to remember all of God's blessings, even in times of challenges. And let's keep our men and women in uniform in our prayers, too. We're especially thankful for them... and what they do for the cause of freedom every day. More about Thanksgiving: Read Lincoln's first Proclamation in its entirety below.

AS I SUSPECTED

There are more Bush 41 people suddenly in places of prominence in Bush 43-land. Too many: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15674912/site/newsweek/ It's as if the elders are saying, "OK, W, you've tried it your way, now we need to clean it up". Time to be concerned. Americans hired Bush 43 because he was more conservative than his father, at least in some areas. With all the current GOP talk of the need to return to Reagan principles (and we do) this new old-Bush-insiders plan isn't the way to make it happen. The earlier Bushies were quick to get rid of Reaganites in 1989 and we know what happened to the "Read my lips, no new taxes" pledge. Backing off from deposing Saddam in the first Gulf War created new problems and increased terror support by the Butcher of Baghdad. Now the White House push will be to be more "moderate", including suggestions to work with Iran and Syria (!!!) re: an Iraq solution. Egad. What's next? Bringing in Jimmy Carter to "help"? The way to win the war on terrorism is not to embrace appeasement. GWB needs a spine implant right now, and should get the veto pen ready. And let's not worry about anyone's legacy, 43... or 41. This is not the time to worry about how the Presidential libraries will portray presidential decisions, and it's no time to get obsessed with improving 41's image. Just do the right thing, Mr. President.

SPEAKING OF REAGAN PRINCIPLES: I am re-engergized after spending the last few days with conservative leaders (including 500 of America's brightest college students) at Young America's Foundation's West Coast Leadership Summit and the Reagan Ranch. Today I also re-visited the Reagan Library. It's been like getting a booster shot of "what really matters" and being filled with optimism, even in the face of new challenges. I think all GOP leaders should be required to make a similar pilgrimage... and soon...before they stray into a DNC trap. BUYER'S REMORSE?

Maybe some on the left (and swing voters) are wondering just what they've set in motion. Just watched an NBC Los Angeles news story where a Santa Monica woman (somewhat agitated) said, "We voted for change in Iraq...not a new plan or report". Many voters thought they could simply cast a ballot and Iraq would be finished. Not so easy. There's a big difference between critiquing the war effort from the outside and suddenly being in charge. Now that they have the House and Senate, DNC leaders will realize what they already really know: There's only one way to wrap it up... win. I believe the Dems do not really want a solution to the situation until after the 2008 Presidential election. So Bush needs to avoid caving in to their every demand and remember he's still Commander-in-Chief. Lead, Mr. President, politics be damned. And get ready to use veto power... often.

THANK A VETERAN TODAY

AS THE STOMACH CHURNS

The Left is wasting no time showing their its colors. In Germany, it looks like there will be an attempt to file criminal charges against Rumsfeld and others: www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1557842,00.html This is the latest left-wing tactic to blame America first, and to make it very difficult to fight enemies in the future. On The View, Rosie O'Donnell warmed up to the bad guys ("Don't fear the terrorists. They're mothers and fathers "too): www.mrc.org/cyberalerts/2006/cyb20061110.asp#7
In the meantime Democrats are going to get war advice from George McGovern and we hear that Iran, Syria and Al Qaeda have expressed satisfaction in their big win on Tuesday. Uh oh.

THE FALLOUT CONTINUES

Many in the GOP are ticked about the timing of the Rumsfeld resignation: www.thehill.com/thehill/export/TheHill/News/Frontpage/110906/

I'M GOING TO THE MOUNTAINTOP: Noon to 3PM (Pacific) today, I'll be broadcasting live from Rancho Del Cielo... better known as the Reagan Ranch. Ronald Reagan spent a total of one year of his Presidency at the Ranch, and it's a great place to get a refresher on RR's beliefs. With all the analysts saying the Republican party needs to re-focus and go back to "Reagan principles", this is perfect timing. Be listening for special guests and more information on this weekend's West Coast Leadership Conference in nearby Santa Barbara, sponsored by Young America's Foundation. I'll also be speaking at the Conference, which empowers college students to go back to their universities with renewed zeal for conservatism. More info: www.yaf.org

AS THE WORLD GLOATS

So the Bush-haters got their wish. Now what? Here's the global perspective on new challenges: www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3326183,00.html On NBC last night, one of the more accurate reports from Baghdad: The Iraqi government is concerned about too-fast withdrawal... and so are many American troops. ELECTION UPDATE

Here's the latest on local and California election results: www.sdvote.com

LICKING THE WOUNDS

OK, I was wrong. Right about GOP voters "coming home" in recent days, but wrong about the overall outcome. Independents were in full anti-Bush mode. "Swing voters" showed they still have their "waver mode" in force. Here's the latest: http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=2637349 Makes me wonder how a 24/7 news world and continuous polling would have screwed up World War II. Now the questions remain: Will the Democrats take a "build the coaltion" approach, working to blunt stereotypes... or are they hard-wired for non-stop investigations and possible impeachment proceedings? They could learn a few things from the Governator about working to create consensus.

SENDING A MESSAGE: Many voters said they wanted to "send a message" to Bush & Co. about Iraq. I wonder how that message is received by our men and women in uniform. Is what they hear via the message "sorry, you can't cut it, you're pinned down, nice try" (ala Murtha's comments)? And the Dem's "New Direction" (high-tailing it out of there) certainly encourages the bad guys. Elections are often dramatic and politics isn't for the faint of heart, but what does this "message" say to those who've given the ultimate sacrifice for freedom? "Thanks for that, but not important.. sorry, we made a mistake?" The Democrats need to be very careful not to create a type of post-Vietnam syndrome in America, ramping up disdain for the troops.

DECISION DAY

The only poll that matters will be today's final election results. Nevermind the pundits and analysts. Do your part and vote. If you don't know about a specific candidate or proposition, skip it and vote for the other issues on the list. You won't "spoil" your ballot. (If you're a Francine Busby follower in California's 50th Congressional district, please note: You do need "papers for voting"...that is, you need to be a legal voter, according to United States regulations. ) And a final note to all voters: Do what is right. Don't vote based on emotion and twisted campaign ads. Yes, this election is (for the most part) about Iraq --- but ask yourself: Does the opposition have a plan... or just a plan to "hate Bush"? What would they do about Iraq? Is there a plan?

CALIFORNIA UPDATE: Last-minute campaigning by Arnold and Phil. My prediction: Arnold wins by at least 10 points and helps "down ticket" GOP races, including McClintock for Lt. Gov.
I'll be with Arnold and company in LA, emceeing the Victory Rally tonight (also doing reports on KOGO). www.insidebayarea.com/oaklandtribune/localnews/ci_4610202

BEWARE THE WEEKEND SPIN

The left will use the Haggard scandal to try to keep Christian voters home on Tuesday. That's the last thing that should happen. And it's disgusting that "experts" are trying to use this mess (and challenges in Iraq) as a way to grab power. The reality is this: People are people, evil is evil, sin is something that affects all individuals, regardless of political affiliation: www.usatoday.com/news/religion/2006-11-03-evangelical-scandal_x.htm The next chapter: How will the issue of forgiveness be handled?

NEO-CONS TAKE AIM AT BUSH: In a new Vanity Fair article:www.vanityfair.com/politics/features/2006/12/neocons200612 These aren't ALL of the Neo-Cons, of course. Also consider this: There's some butt-covering going on here, hedging bets in case the Dems win big on Tuesday.

Let's get an "international group punishment deal" while we're at it: Throw in the accused Esperanza fire arsonist who's responsible for killing five firefighters in Southern California. http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=2626249

TROOPS RESPOND TO KERRY

And they react to his tepid, self-serving "apology" with an educated response: http://newsmax.com/archives/ic/2006/11/1/154656.shtml?s=lh Imagine if he was a Republican--- his outrageous "joke" would be milked by the networks until Election Day. As it stands, the networks can't get on to something else fast enough. They're praying that Kerry hasn't given the Republicans a gift.

WEST COAST LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

Last day to register today for this exciting Santa Barbara, CA event. I'll be speaking along with Michael Reagan. Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, Larry Elder and others. Here are the details:
www.yaf.org

IT'S SO OBVIOUS...

...and sickening. Kerry digs in his heels again today, stuck in the Land of Denial. Get a load of this exchange on MSNBC this morning: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZMRecdL_No
Imus tells him to "stop talking" and makes it obvious that lefties are concerned Kerry will mess up DNC chances on Tuesday. At the same time, mainstream/dinosaur media outlets circle the wagons to pooh-pooh the Kerry remark, trying to position it as "a wash", not changing voter attitudes (that was Tim Russert's spin on TODAY) and just a partisan debate. More coverage on the media trying to protect their guy: www.newsbusters.org Well, the story's not over, nor should it be. Now some Democrats are distancing themselves from Kerry, too. The Massachusetts blowhard has shown what he's really made of, insulting every man and woman in uniform. VIDEO: Kerry's arrogant attitude on full display: http://youtube.com/watch?v=nLjxay8Nc_E Time for Kerry to resign.

THE REAL JOHN KERRY

Aided by the left, he's hoping for a "media pass". Former Clinton (and Kerry) flack Mike McCurry on CBS Tuesday night claimed the Kerry comments wouldn't be in the news tonight. We'll see. The only way that'll happen is if national media try to bury the story. They're already warming up, but J.F-Word.K's energized the GOP base. The DNC thought Rove & Co. would create an October Surprise, never expecting it would be self-inflicted by one of their own. Kerry's shown his true colors.... and they aren't red, white and blue: http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/story?id=2619383&page=1 Thank God this arrogant slug isn't President of the United States.

NOT TO BE OUTDONE, KATIE'S UNPLUGGED TOO: Imitating those nasty Republicans, mocking them and trying to give Kerry room to wiggle. See the story and video here: http://newsbusters.org/node/8743 Also on this link: McCurry's comments regarding the story. (Earlier on CBS he said Kerry had "more or less apologized". Huh? By claiming he didn't have to apologize to anyone?!?!) Watch and wince... and have your air sickness bag handy.
