TERRORISTS IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD
Could be... if Gitmo closes. Terror suspects could be transferred to American soil... like Camp Pendleton and Miramar in San Diego County and several other locations: www.signonsandiego.com/news/nation/terror/20070330-1014-bn30detain2.html
Imagine the possibilities.. tie up U.S. courts, get forced to release suspects into local communities... yikes.

TEACHERS GONE WILD...AGAIN
Here they go again: abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=2995687 Am I the only one who thinks the issue of teachers-hitting-on-kids is bigger than an occasional "Bird Flu" scare? Networks go crazy highlighting a guy who sneezes in Borneo, but the nasty teacher cases are turning into a sleazy epidemic.

Another San Diego area grocery strike in the works: weblog.signonsandiego.com/news/breaking/2007/03/grocery_workers_
Let's review how effective the last strik was in 2003... soured community support (especially after pickets were still on duty in the hellish atmosphere of the Cedar fires), closed stores and fewer jobs. Who still has a job? The big union boss, of course. Hmmm...

THEY KNOW THE BUSINESS
When it comes to hostage taking, Iran's made it an artform. Just recall what they did to our U.S. Embassy staff during the Carter years. Now they're trying to justify today's snagging of 15 British troops: www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/middle_east/article1560788.ece Based on Ahmadinejad's off-the-chart comments in recent months, this shouldn't surprise anyone. SPEAKING OF CAPITOL HILL: Very interesting article in The Hill, the political "Bible" in DC. It says yours truly is considering a run for Congress. Hmmm.. imagine that! Here's the scoop:
Rep. Duncan Hunter will not seek reelection
By Betsy Rothstein
March 20, 2007
White House hopeful Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) will not seek reelection next year as his 30-year-old son prepares to mount a race for his father’s seat. Duncan D. Hunter, the lawmaker’s son, confirmed late Tuesday that the 110th Congress will be his father’s last. The younger Hunter, who is working on his father’s presidential campaign, is in Washington this week. Rep. Hunter’s office confirmed his retirement from Congress. “My understanding is yes. Congressman Hunter does not intend to run for two offices simultaneously and presently does not intend to seek reelection in the 52nd congressional district,” said spokesman Joe Kasper.Hunter is the only lawmaker running for president who has announced his retirement from Congress.Until 2005, Duncan D. Hunter was in the U.S. Marine Corps. About a month ago, he says, he moved to Lakeside, an unincorporated area of San Diego. Before that, he lived in Oklahoma, Virginia, Camp Pendleton and Iraq twice. Once out of the Marines, he says, he moved to Idaho for a year to build homes. Hunter added that he went to high school in San Diego, and graduated from San Diego State University. Hunter says he will soon formally announce his candidacy, but not on April Fool’s Day. “Not April 1 of course,” he said, laughing. “Maybe a day after.” Hunter is not necessarily alone in the race to replace his father in the conservative district. Radio host Mark Larson has been meeting with campaign experts to determine his chances. Hunter said he never intended to go into politics, but had “a change of heart” during his second tour in Iraq. “America is a country worth sacrificing for,” he said, adding that he wanted to “serve the country in other aspects besides the military.” Hunter insisted that he would not think of his father’s seat as something that was automatically his. “Dad always said there’s no hand me downs in anything. This is going to be a race just like any other race and it’s going to be a hard fight.” He said he enjoys working on his father’s campaign before he starts his own. “Let’s put it this way, the price is right. I’m a very good volunteer.”

DON'T ASK, DON'T SAY ANYTHING
It's another strike against free speech in America. In an interview, Gen. Peter Pace dared to speak about his personal views and activists are going ballistic. He called the conduct of gays "immoral"... and said the same thing about heterosexual adulterers: http://www.examiner.com/a-615978~Gay_Advocates_Demand_Apology_From_Pace.html Of course the pressure will now build with groups insisting he must step down. Just a few years ago, many conservatives were predicting the day when free speech would be curtailed, starting with the issue of gay rights. In those days, the warnings were thought to be overdone. Uh huh.

SAVING MS. COURIC

So expect more left of center fun from the man who made MSNBC and CNN so "balanced". The former "Tiffany Network" hasn't learned from the Rather mess, keeps spewing left of center bias then wonders why Ms. Couric is in last place in the net news. To their credit, they have aired some good positive features at times lately, but most changes so far have been inconsequential: Opening the broadcast with Katie seated, not walking awkwardly while doing the opening line. Oh--- and have you noticed she now says "HELLO everyone".... must have felt the heat over the original "HI everyone!" Imagine Cronkite...or Murrow... or Schieffer leading with "Hi". Ooh boy. TV insiders say CBS will stick with her at the helm for at least two years. Hey, they're paying $15 million a year, so they don't want any hasty decisions.

CBS CATCHES UP
The lead story on tonight's 60 Minutes featured Brig. Gen. John Custer, chief of intelligence for U.S. Central Command: www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/03/02/60minutes/main2531546.shtml
CBS promoted Scott Pelley's story as a new revelation: The jihadists are using the internet for recruiting, with shocking results. Glad they've finally caught up with the story. Gen. Custer revealed all of this when I first interviewed him in the Middle East in September of 2005. And he's updated this issue on more recent phone interviews and in-studio with us in San Diego a few weeks ago. He's a very smart man, and we should be grateful to have him in such position of influence. Wish I could say the same about CBS News. But at least they're getting with the story now... about a year and a half late.

She who would be President.
EVER NOTICE: How Barack Obama changes his delivery and style when speaking to African-American audiences? Kind of like when Mrs. Clinton, who grew up in Illinois, feigned a Southern accent when she was first lady (or so she thought) in Arkansas. Today, speaking in Alabama on the anniversary of the Selma march, Obama was on a roll and Hillary was in full-throated blare. Someone needs to remind her that we have microphones now... she doesn't need to yell ala a 1960s demonstration. Oh--- and isn't it interesting that Democrat candidates can speak in any church, anytime, without criticism? But if GOP stars do, it's a Constitutional crisis. Hmmmm...
SPEAKING OF REVELATIONS: No one is more on top of the China threat than Bill Gertz, Pentagon correspondent for the Washington Times. He also wrote "The China Threat" a few years ago. He updated us regarding China's dramatic increase in military spending on Friday's radio show. Here's more info on this hot topic: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070304/ap_on_re_as/china_politics_2

THE WORK OF PUTIN'S PEOPLE?
Has the epidemic of murders involving those who put the Russian President's regime in a bad light extended to America? http://www.wtopnews.com/?nid=104&sid=1077963
And, as usual, reports note that the slaying appears to a "random... street killing". Uh huh.
Coincidence? We'll see. Keep an eye on Putin. Once a KGB man, always a KGB man.

HERE THEY GO AGAIN
Now the Feds want to slap another law enforcement officer with a prison sentence... this time seven years... for doing his job and fighting illegal immigration: http://wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=54533 In the meantime, Border Patrol officers Ramos and Compean are still locked up, serving eleven and twelve year terms. I wonder how the White House "re-investigation"of their case is going?

SO NOW IT'S OVER
Or is it? Anna Nicole is finally buried, and among the performers at today's funeral was Joe Nichols... whose last hit was "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off". I don't think he sang that at the service, but then again I'm only two-thirds of the way through watching Entertainment Tonight's fawning hour-long coverage, complete with "exclusives". So far there's been no disclosure of a reported four MILLION bucks paid by ET to Howard K. Stern for the "funeral rights". That's what used to be called "checkbook journalism". But ET wouldn't pay for it if America didn't lust for more reports. So that's where we are now in this country. We've come a long way, baby. Might as well sell sponsorships for everything. Hey, I'm pro-business, but really... what's next? Logos on coffins, ala NASCAR jackets? Rob Long at National Review sheds some light on the whole Anna Nicole Smith circus. Some of his excellent points:
Somewhere around the time Broward County circuit judge Larry Seidlin began weeping, inexplicably, as he read his decision in the Anna Nicole Smith case, I thought to myself, “What are we fighting so hard for? Let the terrorists win. They have a point.” Of course, I wondered why the judge was crying at all. It seemed like a pretty routine court procedure — rich lady dies; confusion abounds; judge steps in to clear it up — but for some reason, Judge Seidlin took it all very personally. On the other hand, after weeks of idiotic wall-to-wall coverage of the death of a minor celebrity, we were all feeling a little bit punchy. I confess to a giddy, lightheaded feeling when I heard that she had named her infant daughter something called “Dannielynn.” Let’s get this all out of the way: Anna Nicole Smith was a freakish oddity, one of those creatures who bounce through the pachinko game of life and somehow end up on the front page. Because she was beautiful, she became a model. Because she became a model, she captured the attention of a Texas oil tycoon. Because the Texas oil tycoon was 89 years old, she became an heiress. Because she became an heiress, she ended up in probate court. Then she got fat. Then she got skinny. Then she got her own reality show. Then she died. Then she ended up back in probate court. And now she has her own reality show again, this time as an off-screen star, which is something to be grateful for.

Oh.. and I don't think it's over. Exhumation and more court cases, anyone?
And by the way: The story has "legs" at least until Tuesday, when the burial service will again be sensitively portrayed, for a fee, on ET.

STOP THE PRESSES
Wow, here's a bulletin. "Most Americans favor universal healthcare", says a new CBS poll: www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/03/01/opinion/polls/main2528357.shtml Duh. Anytime you offer anything considered "free", what are people going to say? Well sure, I'd like some of that! This begs the question (ala the new hit TV show): Is America Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?"
A GLIMPSE OF THE FUTURE...
... if reason doesn't prevail on illegal immigration: http://www.laweekly.com/general/features/the-town-the-law-forgot/15731/
CHEERLEADERS FOR MARKET DOOM: As Wall Street opened this morning and things went south, only the network anchors were panicky ("Is the bottom falling out of the market?", asked Meredith on Today). Clearer heads on reporters actually at the stock exchange, saying level-heads see this is a normal "correction". Bottom line: If the left-wing media can talk down the economy.... the DOW and housing... they could really have a shot at getting one of their own into the White House in 2008.
