WE'VE LOST AN AMERICAN HERO


















Walter M. "Wally" Schirra, Jr. has passed away at age 84. Not only was he one of the original seven U.S. astronauts, he was also the only person to fly Mercury, Gemini and Apollo missions.
Not only was he a true space pioneer, he stayed current on the issues and was active until the end. I'm honored to have counted him as a friend for many years, as we worked together on his speaking engagements and through the San Diego Air & Space Museum (he first got me involved in the Museum, where I still serve on the Board of Directors... as he did for years).
