This reminds me of the time in the 1970s with NBC's Johnny Carson joked about a toilet paper shortage... which caused lots of viewers to run to the stores and overdose on Charmin. It's no surprise that people get moved to do crazy things if they're told something repeatedly. Busy folks have little time to get all the facts, and this is an age where we have 24/7 news and more information at our fingertips that at any time in history. It's as if we want to believe the worst, with too many of us who are already sick and nervous, due to a steady info-diet of negative news and those who (for whatver warped reason) appear to cheer on a recession. Time to sober up and get out of easy-panic mode.

Selectively forgetting to say, for example, that some people or even many are in one problem or another leads to stump speeches only filled with words that make it sound like our country is 100% lost, in a hole, a national disaster on all fronts... "unless you elect me". Let's remember, as my friend Cal Thomas often says, we're "voting for President, not savior."

This legend of a man passed away this weekend. He was great, bold,influential... and very effective. He also marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. when it wasn't popular to do. In recent years his anti-gun detractors conveniently overlooked that part of his life.
