A GREAT DAY FOR CALIFORNIA

Gov. Ahhnold does the right thing and not only vetoes the driver's licenses-for-illegals bill, but also says no to the "Triple Threat" bills from the Knucklehead Caucus. He deserves a big THANK YOU for boldly doing what needed to be done. Here's the scoop on what he did late yesterday, courtesy of Capitol Resource Institute:

Governor Schwarzenegger today vetoed AB 606 (Levine-D) and AB 1056 (Chu-D), the final two bills identified as the triple threat to California families. The governor vetoed SB 1437 (Kuehl-D) earlier this month. AB 606 would have required the State Board of Education to increase sensitivity to so- called discrimination. The State Superintendent of Public Instruction would have had unlimited discretion to withhold state funds from schools that did not comply with his interpretation of the law. AB 1056 would have integrated tolerance training into history and social science curriculum and started a pilot program that forced students to learn a "new definition" of tolerance. According to this new definition, students would be forced to not only accept, but advocate homosexuality by "conveying respect" for a lifestyle that violates their religious beliefs. "This is a victory for California families," stated Karen England, Executive Director of Capitol Resource Institute. "Due to the public outcry over these outrageous attacks on students with moral beliefs, the governor vetoed all three. This proves that when citizens who care about protecting their religious and moral beliefs speak out, we can make a huge difference."

HARSH WORDS? The networks and lefties (sometimes one-in-the-same ideology) pounced on Bush's "harsh words" about Democrats and terrorism. Harsh? The words just sounded truthful to me. And it certainly wasn't a windstorm ala Clinton or Howard Dean: http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/09/28/bush.ap/index.html

CONDI RICE FIRES BACK AT BUBBA

Reacting to the Clinton eruption on Fox, the Secretary of State responds to his whoppers: www.nypost.com/seven/09252006/news/nationalnews/rice_boils_over In the meantime, on NBC's Today Show this morning, James Carville and Paul Begala were crowing about Clinton's appearance... Begala said "Dr. Clinton gave us a spine transplant". Carville was off in loopyville talking repeatedly about the "Disney movie" (The Path to 9/11, produced by Disney's Buena Vista division) being done by some Rush Limbaugh guy. Wow, are these guys scary to watch. Amusing, but scary considering the troops they lead.

WE'VE ALL SEEN IT?

"It" being Clinton's hot mood swings? Not exactly. I've seen several left-of-center analysts today talking about the issue as if everyone knows about it. Americans don't. They haven't seen Mr. Charm blow up like he did with Chris Wallace. On NBC tonight, there was Brian Williams with David Gergen admitting that "we've seen this" and the flap with Chris Wallace was "only a 4 on a 10 scale". Yuck yuck. As if people just "know" Clinton is prone to this. Can you imagine how the media would be screaming if George W. Bush was wired the same way? Do you think the media would skip the story? Not a chance. This is very reminiscent of how "friendly" media gave JFK a regular pass on his illicit activities and worked hard to avoid showing FDR's infirmities. And the way they gave Clinton cover on his problems with women. None care call it a double-standard. But we do.

DEBUNKING CLINTON'S WHOPPERS

IRAQ WAR STIRS UP TERRORISM?

So says a government report that was (oh-so-conveniently) leaked to the New York Times:
www.nytimes.com/2006/09/24/world/middleeast/24terror.html?ei=5065&en=f45c4cfbace58a03&ex=1159675200&partner One of the revelations: The jihadists are now using the INTERNET to recruit. No kidding. I reported on that fact ONE YEAR ago, after my first trip to the Middle East. This is not a mystery. Of course the bad guys get upset and fight harder, recruiting more fellow bad guys. It's war. It happens. Watch the Democrats pounce all over this, making it seem that the terrorists would have left us alone if only we'd ignored Saddam. What a bunch of bunk.

CHRIS WALLACE RESPONDS TO CLINTON

Regarding Bubba's "purple rage" interview on Fox News, Chris tells the FishbowlDC blog:
I was utterly surprised by the tidal wave of details--emotion--and political attacks that followed.
The President was clearly stung by any suggestion that he had not done everything he could to get bin Laden. He attacked right-wingers--accused me of a "conservative hit job"--and even spun a theory I still don't understand that somehow Fox was trying to cover up the fact that NewsCorp. chief Rupert Murdoch was supporting his Global Initiative. I still have no idea what set him off.Former President Clinton is a very big man. As he leaned forward--wagging his finger in my face--and then poking the notes I was holding--I felt as if a mountain was coming down in front of me.
The President said I had a smirk. Actually--it was sheer wonder at what I was witnessing.
I tried repeatedly to adhere to the ground rules--to move the President along--and back to the CGI. But he wanted to keep talking about his record fighting terror.
When it became clear he wanted to throw out the ground rules--then I just went with the flow of the interview.

In the wake of his blunt comments about the Muslim faith, the Pope issues his second apology in two days: www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aKbMHhuvCE6A&refer=worldwide_news Will this be enough? Time will tell. But let's consider the bigger question: Do leaders of faith groups have a right to be clear about what they believe? Of course. In the meantime some Christian churches have been attacked by Islamic radicals in protest of the Pope's words. When is the last time you recall Christians attacking a mosque? And the next time an Islamic leader lashes out at Christian Americans, for example, I guess there should be demands for a continuing apology, too. It's only fair.

9/11 TRIBUTES THROUGHOUT AMERICA

WE REMEMBER

On this day in 2001, America changed forever. Today we salute those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the 9/11 attacks, and the heroes who remain steadfast in our country's mission to fight terrorism. Listen throughout the day on KOGO for continuing coverage, fly your flag proudly and never forget what happened on this day in history. I'll be broadcasting from our exclusive Fox News/KOGO studio on location at Ground Zero from 12 Noon to 3PM Pacific (NewsRadio 600 KOGO and www.kogo.com)

LIVE FROM NEW YORK 8:30AM Eastern: As I write this, I am looking down on the "pit" to the small pools of water that mark where the World Trade Center Towers once stood and near where preparations are being made to build the new Freedon Tower. The only remaining stairwell that was connected to the north tower to Vesey street stands as a monument to those who were able to use it for escape. Flags are lined up on the ramp leading into the area where, in the next few minutes, there will be moments of silence to mark when the hijacked planes hit the towers. Then the names of all of the victims will be read on this fifth anniversary of the attacks. Ceremonies will also be held at the Pentagon and in Shanksville, PA. Stay tuned for live updates throughout the day on KOGO.

THE PRESIDENT IN NEW YORK CITY

I was there at St. Paul's Chapel when the President arrived for the late afternoon 9/11 memorial service today. Security was extremely tight and a few anti-war protesters were also trying to be heard. "Bring the troops home now" balloons, chants and heckling and signs claiming Bush is responsible for 9/11 ("it was an inside job") were around, too. I know that it's the American way to have free speech, but seeing some of this nutjob behavior at Ground Zero was especially repulsive. Radical chants and shouts of conspiracy in a graveyard, essentially. And there was the man who raised his fist and gave Bush a middle finger salute...for several minutes... directed to him and the church, apparently. Here's more about the President's visit: www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2006-09-10-bush-sept-11_x.htm?csp=34

Muslim parade down Madison Avenue.

I know life's getting back to "normal", but this is surreal to see near Ground Zero.

This is like dancing on graves in a cemetary.

NO MATTER WHAT CLINTON'S BUDDIES SAY

The ABC movie, "The Path to 9/11" is powerful stuff. Been watching the east coast broadcast here in New York. This is must-viewing. And here's the latest regarding some head-scratching at the network... execs puzzled about the last couple of days of Clintonista whining, especially since copies of the film were distributed in July: http://mediaweek.com/mw/news/networktv/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003118271&&&&&imw=Y But of course we know it's only Republicans who use anything 9/11-related for political purposes. Uh, yeah, sure. I'm sure what really bugs the Clinton buddies is the situations (not fiction dialogue) that are undeniable: Losing Bin Laden, not nailing terrorists fully when they were hitting American interests leading up to 9/11 and things like the insertion of Bubba's "I did not have sexual relations with that woman" speech in the midst of the movie timeline. Hey, it happened. One dramatic line I enjoyed (still based on truth) has then-CIA Director George Tenet arguing that a decision could be on his head, "like the with Janet Reno and Waco... the buck stops down the hall". And there's Clinton's lowkey wimpy statement about "doing everything" to find those who bombed US Embassies in Africa. Never enough. Terrorists knew America was weak-kneed then. The truth hurts, doesn't it Clintonistas?

LIVE FROM NEW YORK

I'll be at Ground Zero tomorrow for our exclusive broadcast at our Fox News Channel on-site studio...the only California radio talkshow given this opportunity. We'll have our most moving line-up of guests yet, including first-responders, family members and national figures... all who have been "through the fire" of the 9/11 attacks on America in New York City and Washington, DC. We'll also remember those who perished while fighting back on United flight 93. This is a program you won't want to miss. We will never forget.

WHERE THE WAR ON TERROR BEGAN: In Afghanistan Friday a suicide car bomber killed two Coalition soliders and numerous innocent Afghans. The incident hit me hard, as this happened right where I was last March, on location in Kabul (several days there, including visits to Kandahar and Helmand province). But the record is clear: The terrorists are notorious for cranking up mayhem around key dates and events (like elections, 9/11 anniversaries, etc). Still, there's a new concern about a "suicide cell" now operating in Kabul: http://breakingnews.nypost.com/dynamic/stories/A/AFGHAN_VIOLENCE?SITE=NYNYP&SECTION=HOME We'll have the latest on Afghanistan when I talk with Major General Robert Durbin, direct from Kabul tomorrow. He'll be among the many special guests on our 9/11 anniversary program live from Ground Zero in New York City.

IF ONLY CLINTON'S PEOPLE...

...had summoned this kind of passion and focused their energy on nailing Bin Laden:
http://electioncentral.tpmcafe.com/blog/electioncentral/2006/sep/09/

SATURDAY AFTERNOON UPDATE

I spent most of today roaming the streets of Manhattan, exploring neighborhoods and eavesdropping on the locals(in the tradition of the NSA, of course). The weather's been perfect, so everyone is taking to the streets. Everywhere you go there's talk of the 9/11 anniversary, plenty of Bush complaints (hey, this is a Blue State) and grousing about the Tuesday New York Primary election. There seems to be a disproportionate number of French tourists here, too... maybe diverted from service the UN expected in Lebanon. Oui?

On TV there's Hillary Clintion again, with a fresh commercial capitalizing on the news that workers from Ground Zero are facing serious health concerns, saying "On 9/11 they told us that the air was ok to breathe...well, they were wrong". Of course the Democrat spin is that only Republicans use 9/11 for political purposes. The hot race for NY Attorney General pits perennial candidate Mark Green vs. Andrew Cuomo. Both are running pictures of them smiling with the popular, outgoing AG Eliott Spitzer who is running for Governor. The theater district is bustling with plans for a Sunday free show in Times Square, featuring songs and stars from about every hit show. The streets are full of shoppers, families, tourists from foreign lands and occasional lunatic (they'll be running for office next election). The usual popular attractions are full of visitors (I especially enjoyed the Piermont Morgan Library and the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum).

At one point I was right in the middle of the annual Labor Parade today, too. I think the unions milk the Labor Day thing a few more days to not-so-subtly remind voters how to "properly" vote... or else. I walked a couple blocks from my hotel and there they were: Thousands of of union members shuffling down Fifth Avenue in solidarity. I've never seen so many different and even obscure unions (expected to see a Belly Button Lint Removers Local group). In the middle of the mix, there were some signs saying things like "Money for education, not war". In Hell's Kitchen a sign in a shop says "Make pottery not war". I think the '60s protesters are back in force, needing fresh material... and looking a little long in the tooth.

Still there's a feeling of "it could happen again any day" here, and that's what separates New York from the rest of America... why people here tell pollsters they fear another terrorist attack and the rest of America feels more secure. The police presence is very noticable everywhere... many more on the streets than when I was here earlier in the year. But life goes on, as it should: Living each day in hope but staying vigilant in moments of fear.

CLINTON TEAM TRIES TO CONTROL ABC

As John Gibson from Fox News told me today on my show, "It's not a full court press, it's an assault". Clintonistas are terrified that their leader will be revealed to have been more interested in Monica than the nation's security. Lt. Col. (ret.) "Buzz" Patterson, the man who carried the "nuclear football" for Bubba says it is true that The Man from Hope missed opportunties to snag Bin Laden. Well, truth doesn't matter to the Clinton defenders. While ABC makes final edits, Bush may give ABC an easy out by scheduling his speech to the nation in prime time (central and eastern times), forcing the network into a scheduling problem. Here's the buzz from Buzz:

AND THAT'S THE WAY IT IS

Katie Couric debuted on CBS to loads of hype and mixed reviews. After seeing the new format and the Perky One, my 22 year old daughter, a Katie fan, noted: "Dad, I miss old Bob". (See my earlier blog about missing "gravitas".) Trailblazing new ideas, like guest commentators? Been there, done that. Ask Cal Thomas who got bumped for Laura Ingraham on the CBS weekend news years ago. So much for that idea. Just loved Katie's "objective" analysis segment with the pet Lib of the New York Times, too. But remember: Couric's not biased... her VIEWERS are. So she said, on the record: www.mrc.org/cyberalerts/2006/cyb20060905.asp#1

AL QAEDA WANNA-BE IS ONE

A Californian who has been on questionable terrorist tapes (some thought he was a "wanna be") now shows up in a video with Zawahiri... spewing words that could signal a coming attack. How any U.S. citizen could join up with these thugs boggles the mind.

MORE CHAOS IN MEXICO

Obrador's refusal to admit he lost the election is leading to increased anarchy (thanks Al Gore for setting the tone for losers). Last night's disruption of the Vicente Fox speech is just another example of where this is going:www.washingtontimes.com/world/20060901-112715-6490r.htm U.S. media still mostly ignore what's happening in Mexican politics... it's time to start paying attention. We better hope and pray that the situation is brought under control before it leads to establishment of a big, renegade socialist neighbor just across the border. That, of course, would not be helpful for many reasons, starting with chaos that leads to more illegal immigrants fleeing to the U.S. What happens in Mexico doesn't stay in Mexico.

GRAVITAS TRANSPLANT, ANYONE?

It was a touching salute to departing anchor Bob Schieffer last night (even with his tendency to lean to the left) but the sneak preview of the Katie Couric era at CBS leaves a void. Something's missing.... hmmm? Just not used to this new world of journalism.
