NOW THAT'S MORE LIKE IT

You can tell when President Bush has made a good choice for the Supreme Court. Immediate reaction to Sam Alito from Sen. Harry "Slots" Reid: "This is disappointing". (Reid is cast in the Tom Daschle whiny, wimpy male role now... trying to connect with ... well, who knows.) Chucky Schumer says the choice is "sad". He's been saying that GWB needs to make us "proud" (Oh? Like Ruth Bader Ginsburg made us feel that way?) They are already grumbling about this selection being too narrow, conservative, not diverse enough, he's-not-a-minority-woman, etc etc. Before the day is out, expect a windbag speech (ala Bork) from Ted Kennedy. Something like, "In Sam Alito's America dinosaurs will run free, women won't be able to get an abortion at a drive-thru clinic, global warming will be the end of us all, bird flu running rampant, Karl Rove's using mind control. I've gotta get a drink." This is a great sign. Reid said he liked Miers from the start. These guys are blowing a gasket already. Good.

Sen. Chuck Schumer after having all of his blood drained for Halloween. Nurses are still looking for his soul.

Bush should have made a gutsy choice like this before the Harriet Miers mess. The DNC already refers to Alito as "Scalito"... noting how he and Scalia are in lockstep on issues. We can use more like Scalia ... and Thomas... on the court. Now we'll watch which Republicans-in-name-only defect to the Dems side. And we'll see if there's a major roadblock in fighting a possible filibuster because of McCain's cave-in with the Gang of 14 earlier this year.

Thank you, Mr. President, for allowing us a to enjoy special Halloween treat: Seeing the liberals in full loony mode, scary faces and all. That's making a decision like a leader who won in 2004! Refreshing, for a change.

IRAQ UPDATE: You'll hear about more U.S. deaths today. Hey, it's a war. Tragic, but a continuing indication of how badly the terrorists want victory. They're fighting the big progress being made. But the networks will continue to focus only on U.S. casualities. In this story, the Pentagon is now issuing estimates of Iraqi civilian deaths. Cindy Sheehan please note: This debunks the usual "100,000 to 200,000" left-wing estimate of "innocents" killed by America.

AMERICA'S NOT KILLING THE LOCALS

Despite the mantra of the left about "100,000+" civilians killed by U.S. Forces (a bogus number), the "insurgents"--- aka "freedom fighters" in Cindy Sheehan's mind---continue to kill innocent Iraqis. And in the following story, check the Italian prime minister's current view. Gotta love the revisionist history. Besides, why take advice from a country where the government changes every fifteen minutes?

BORDER SECURITY DEBATED IN SACRAMENTO. And the left still doesn't get it.
A nation must secure its borders. And we're not just talking about Mexico here. Al Qaeda is most likely to wander in over the Canadian border. Sovereignty depends on security.
If the Border Patrol can't/won't do what needs to be done (due to Federal inaction) then a state border police force makes lots of sense.

MORE FEEDBACK.... AND MORE TERROR

We've been talking about this all week...and we're turning up the heat: More and more listeners are writing and calling with their horror stories. I'm not advocating censorship. I am strongly suggesting that parent find out what their kids might be doing on this meeting place on the web. MySpace.com is the hottest site for internet communication, but too many underage kids are finding ways to beat the system and get into the mix. Too much personal information is revealed, making it one-stop shopping for sex offenders... not to mention increasing the chances of being a victim of identity theft.

First and foremost, parents need to know what's going on in the world of MySpace.com. Then they must be more involved and control the activities of their children to keep them safe on the internet. How? Plenty of great tips on www.protectkids.com But MySpace.com also needs to improve their system, adding tougher age verification systems. Here's email from another concerned mother (more below.. scroll down the Blog):

"MySpace is a concern for me as well. I just found out yesterday that my 13 year old daughter was registered for this site. So I was shocked when I heard it mentioned today. There is way too much information in this site. It is very easy for predetors to become "friends" and gain these kids trust then talk them into meeting somewhere. I also found out about another site call Hi5.com. I think this site is even worse. There were 37 year old men in her network. I had a long talk with my daugher and let her know the dangers in sites like this. I then cancelled her email address as well as cancelled here accounts to both of those sites. Parents should be very concerned with these kinds of sites because kids are too trusting and think that when they talk about what city they live in, what school they go to and what they like to, that they're just having conversations. I do not plan on allowing my daughter to have an email account again until she is much older. I have learned from my mistake before something happened. I hope other parents will learn before something happens to their child."

TERRORISTS WORK ON THE WEEKENDS, TOO: Today's New Delhi blasts are a grim reminder for those who think we can "reason" with terrorist thugs. The Jihadists have their goals set on lots of territory in the region. BTW: Isn't it amazing how officials are often relucant to call intentional bombings "terror"... at least initially...as if they don't want to hurt the feelings of some groups. Ah, "self esteem" for Al Qaeda & Company!

MORE FEEDBACK ON THE MYSPACE.COM CONTROVERSY:
Concerned listener "D" writes:

"I can't agree more what a horrible web site this is. It's even more amazing how parents are so uninvolved in what their kids are doing. I've browsed different profiles and the number of very young girls that have pictures of themselves in bras and panties in sexually provacative poses.

I found out that my step kids(boys 11 and 13) have sites on Myspace. I also found out that the 13 year old was addicted to pornagraphy on the internet. I was also finding out that he was logging on to Myspace at 3 o'clock in the morning and 5 am, before his mother woke up.(by the way, this was all happening at her house, we have passwords on our computer). When my husband confronted his ex wife after talking with his son, she came to the conclusion that he was just acting the way a boy his age does. She was more upset that "we" had to let her know what was happening in her own home. The truth is, she doesn't care what the boys are doing as long as they are not bothering her. The 13 year old also had a "friend" of much older age that he was emailing.

Another thing you might want to mention to all your listeners is that the kids can create an account with a "false" name. That way their parents can't look them up and see what their up to. Spyware for the computer is also a good idea, but only works if you actually check it. Or, do what we did at our house and not allow any kids on the computer, except for homework purposes.

Thanks for getting the word out!!!"

MYSPACE.COM CONTROVERSY HEATS UP
Earlier this week I discovered four of my nieces (all underage) have sites within myspace.com.
Way too much personal info, and all there to the surprise of their parents. Donna Rice Hughes, President of Enough is Enough and www.protectkids.com , says this web system is the rage for pre-teen girls. We're staying on this, and exposing what's really going on. This is information every parent, grandparent and concerned adult needs to know. Donna will give us the latest on our Friday show: Noon to 3PM Pacific on NewsRadio 600 KOGO and www.kogo.com

MORE ON MYSPACE.COM: Love notes from listeners include this gem:

"You are carrying the MySpace.com controversy way too far. The site is not an intentional sexual predator site or for pedophiles to target kids with but that is the way you make it sound and by the way is it our fault that you found a couple of your distant relatives that lie about thier ages in order to get access on the
site? It happens all the time and that is why they call it the World Wide Web because it's WORLD WIDE,so are you going to go after the world in order to control a few bad sites and instances or are you attempting to regulate and control the internet (?) because of just one site that you're upset with. And I have to remind you that Donna Rice-Hughes (so she's married now, so what?) she was caught
because she had sexual relations with and sat on the lap of a State Senator running for president. That cost him a run at the

presidency." - (From concerned listener Dennis, as he wrote it)

EDITOR'S NOTE: I've said from the start that I'm not advocating censorship. What adults do is up to them. The problem with this site is that it violates every rule regarding protecting young kids from predators. It's like a billboard for perverts. I never said myspace.com is doing this "intentionally". But clearly someone isn't minding the store, especially when they supposedly have a "no one under 16" rule. If kids lie about their ages to get into the system, that's another problem. I'm exposing this first and foremost as a warning to parents to get involved with what their kids are up to. It's not just "homework" on the computer.
And about Donna: I've known her for over a decade. She's dedicated to doing some great things to support the family, and should be saluted for that. To infer that her situation with U.S. Senator Gary Hart was somehow one-sided is ridiculous. Hartpence cost himself the Presidency by daring reporters to "catch him" and they did.

CONSERVATIVES WANT BUSH TO BAIL

Concerned Women for America, the largest women's organization of its kind in America, has decided to turn up the heat. After days of looking into Harriet Miers' qualifications, they're now demanding that the President withdraw the nomination. It's a major group reflecting continuing lack of confidence in the Miers selection. More to come. Every hour increases the chance that Miers will bail, one way or another. But the pending questions of indictments in the Plame affair may be the wild card that changes the betting on this. Stay tuned.

Much to the irritation of some Sunni leaders (especially since lots of Sunnis voted for this), the Iraqi Constitution was officially approved today. TV MAKES THE ABNORMAL APPEAR NORMAL

If your only window to the world is that 32 inch+ "peephole to paradise", be careful. Whether it's skewed news or disproportionate attention to "hot" issues and subtle agendas, television has more power over you than you may think. Here's a test: What behaviors/attitudes have you become "softer" about? Which former "strike issues" no longer matter to you. Chances are your views have morphed due to a steady drumbeat of spin and activism. So remember, Reagan said, "Trust...but verify". There's plenty of good material on the tube, but finding it takes work. And here's something else to consider: Network ratings month (aka "November sweeps") begins this week--- so get ready for an increased volume of the strange, the titillating, the absurd and the dangerous. All in the name of winning larger audience and advertising revenue. Nevermind what it does to kids. Or to morals in the community.

TEACHER AND STUDENT "RELATIONS": Praised in TV movies (such as the swell story of Mary Kaye and little Villi) and often ignored (or saluted) by people who should cry foul... no wonder we have more of these stories these days:

DONNA FRYE ISN'T MAKING FRIENDS...AGAIN: What a strange encounter with her staff (we re-aired the call on Friday's show). Her campaign manager said that Donna might visit my show if I "charm" her. Huh? "Let the sunshine in, talk to the people anytime" candidate now has to be "CHARMED"? Wow. And the famous San Diego Chicken's peeps tell my peeps (!!!) that the chicken in the "SD Chicken" head at Frye's photo op was an imposter!!! We'll give you the inside scoop. (Glad to know that, since longtime Chicken star Ted Giannoulas was a supporter of President Reagan at the 1988 rallies in San Diego, emceed by yours truly. Ted hasn't gone over to the other side, as he confirmed when he called the show today.)

NEWS NOTE: Friday marks Day 106 of the SECOND stretch of Ms. Frye being "unavailable" for the show. Stretch Number One lasted 245 days. So much for "open" government. Donna's "too busy" to appear. Gov. Ahhnold does, Gorbachev does, the generals running the war on terror (Abizaid, Casey, Eickenberry) do, et al... but she's wayyyyyyy too busy. Uh huh. YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK

Oh sure there are lots of important things to do in our Nation's Capital. The war on terror, uncontrolled spending, Supreme Court appointments, bubbling scandal rumors.... but rest assured that our elected officials are ON THE JOB (all of this is making me hungry):
http://www.cnsnews.com/ViewCulture.asp?Page=\Culture\archive\200510\CUL20051020a.html

WAS IT THE REAL CHICKEN? San Diego mayoral wannabe Donna Frye appeared at a "news conference" with a chicken... clucking about rival Jerry Sanders' (who leads in the polls) budget plans. Was that Ted Giannoulas, famous chicken endorsing Ms. Frye, or a ripped off head with stand-in body?Has Donna stepped into a lawsuit? Ted, say it isn't you!!!
Speaking of the "who's playing chicken?" issue: Today is day 105 of Donna's avoiding my radio show. This after she promised to come on "more often"... when she was a guest the last time... on July 7. After 245 days of being "busy".

THE PARADE CONTINUES

SADDAM IS VACATIONING ON THE BANKS OF DENIAL:
http://www.breitbart.com/news/2005/10/19/D8DB6JD80.html

RUMOR MILL: The current swirl in DC involves Democrats salivating over a possible (but not inevitable) Karl Rove indictment...even a Cheney resignation. Followed by a Condi Rice move to VP?
http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/articles/051018/18whwatch.htm

INTO THE LOOKING GLASS: If Fitzgerald only cites low-level White House people in the CIA/Plame/Flame case, libs will yell about him being a Bush lackey. If he tabs Rove or Scooter Libby (not to be confused with Teetertotter Specter) the sharks will smell blood in the political pond and cast Bush as a modern day Nixon/Watergate figure. White House pols move into full defensive posture. Of course a high-level indictment would make Harriet Miers the also-ran story of the day... and fuel more witchhunts, ala Ronnie Earle's obsession with Tom DeLay.

I HAVE BETTER SOURCES: Despite Air America host John Elliott's assertion (to yours truly on Fox TV Wednesday) that Rove would be "indicted today"... nuttin' happened. As predicted by your friendly compassionate conservative host.

BILL PRESS: Is a fun guest...but liberal through and through. Just plain wrong. His new book, "How the Republicans Stole Christmas : The Republican Party's Declared Monopoly on Religion and What Democrats Can Do to Take it Back", is interesting and often infuriating at times... and it really reveals how the left thinks. Better read: Our friend John Gibson's (Fox News) "The War on Christmas : How the Liberal Plot to Ban the Sacred Christian Holiday IsWorse Than You Thought". He's right on the money. And a whole lot more lucid. (John hosts "The Big Story" weekdays on the Fox News Channel.)

INSIDE THE WHITE HOUSE: Conservative icon Paul Weyrich told me Wednesday that the Bush administration is certainly concerned about the Rove/Libby questions, but not "paralyzed". (So far.)

BUT THEN AGAIN: Furious but loyal?
http://nydailynews.com/front/story/357107p-304312c.html

PHOTO SHOP: Tom DeLay had "mug shots" taken Wednesday. The "mainstream/dinosaur" media will start running these as "official portraits" every chance they get. Any wagering? Will DeLay's mug get more play than Abu Garaib shots? Oh MY... what a newsroom dilemma!

THE KID ON THE POT: I've received several emails regarding the classy photo of the young child reading the newspaper while "on the throne". "Who's the kid?", they ask. This fine addition to this Blog's masthead is, indeed, a candid shot of yours truly in 1957. What Mom was doing taking photos during, well, who knows?... I'm not sure. But I WAS very interested in what Eisenhower was up to back then. Always "on the job"!
This pic graces our extended family potty walls in homes across America. Ah, so proud.

SADDAM'S NOT ALL THAT BAD.. IS HE?

People who should know better are warming up for their "compassionate" approach to the ruthless dictator's trial (begins Wednesday). Here they go again:

THE REST OF THE STORY

On Thursday news organizations were careful not to brand that day's Russian terrorists "Islamic". They were only "militants". Now we know the rest of the story. Jihad isn't limited to Iraq. http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory?id=1218294&CMP=OTC-RSSFeeds0312

FREEDOM DAY IN IRAQ TODAY

Despite terrorist threats, men and women turned out in large numbers to vote on their new constitution. God bless them. Some Americans can't even get up off the couch to vote in our elections. (UPDATE: After Iraqi polls closed, it was difficult to find network news coverage on the election. It was as if they were ready to do extended coverage, but only if things turned ugly. They didn't. And it appears that the referendum was a huge success, with better than expected Sunni participation.)

COUNT THE PARTICIPANTS:And note which "mainstream" pols and groups are aligning with Farrakhan's DC march today. Watch the media overestimate the total number of participants. Then imagine how the same outlets would scream if everyday conservatives lined up in a similar event with a so-called "conservative" extremist... say, David Duke. Louie keeps getting a "scrutiny pass". Why?

OK, WHAT WILL IT BE?

Any bets here? Will national "mainstream" media do more coverage about Louis Farrakhan's "Million Man March" do-over and his wacky changes (Bush blew up the levees to flood and kill black people!!!), or will they focus on the historic Constitutional Referendum in Iraq? It should be the latter. We'll see. Fox News will likely win the Iraq coverage battle which the old-line networks play catch up as they're still focusing on things like Bush's "staged" chat with the troops. (Note: See how NBC got caught staging its own photo op --- in "Hot Stuff" below). What's happening in Iraq is truly amazing. Don't be swayed by media distractions this weekend.

WHO'S THE REAL RACIST? Louis Farrakhan charges of racism have gone off the charts. Now there's this from other places: http://www.cnsnews.com/ViewCulture.asp?Page=\Culture\archive\200510\CUL20051014b.html

THE LEFT WANTS THE ECONOMY TO TANK: They're crowing about a spike in inflation acccording to a new report released today. The culprit: Higher energy prices after the hurricanes. Well, duh. But the trend is settling down.. gas prices down about 11 cents this week.
Liberals want to take the wind out of the economy with anything possible, including trying to spook the housing market.

SOME GOOD NEWS ---KUDOS TO THE CREW OF THE USS BELLEAU WOOD (LHA3): I attended the ship's decommissioning Thursday night in San Diego. Despite the sadness of seeing the first LHA to be retired, it was a moving salute to the men and women who have valiantly served over the last 27 years. There was also a tribute to those who served on the first ship to bear the same name, back in World War II. Several of the "Greatest Generation" were on hand for the ceremony. Congratulations to the CO, Captain Bob Ford on a job well done.

SAN DIEGO CITY HALL INFIGHTING: The whole case gets more bizarre by the day. City Attorney Mike Aguirre and the Council (with dueling counsel) arguing who's in charge and, most amazingly, what the City Charter really says. It's pretty scary to think that public officials haven't mastered the document as "job one" and some are now trying to imagine it says whatever suits their interests. All while the city sinks deeper into the Sea of Red Ink.

MAKE US BEG TO BE TAXED: That's the plan in everything from projected city cutbacks to Donna Frye's half cent sales tax increase scheme. Bureaucrats figure that if they pretend like they can't possibly cut anything else... that every dollar is now being spent wisely... then they cut services they shouldn't be touching, you and I will beg for the "opportunity" to pay more taxes. Talk about crazy! The idea that even a teeny 3% cut can't be done without pain is absurd. Hey, if you have $100 in expenses at your house, you can always find a way to save three bucks. Skip a mocho frappe mooka jamma latte.

THE LEFT DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO HANDLE THIS:

Now that the Iraqi Parliament has approved last-minute changes to the proposed Constitution, there will be more Sunni involvement in this weekend's referendum. The loopy left has been saying all along that even small cooperation with the Sunnis would never happen and it would end all in disaster. While many liberals still behave as if they hope America can still "snatch defeat from the jaws of victory", today's moves by the Iraqi government are a huge step toward self-government and stability in the region.

LEFT-WINGERS UNITE... AROUND SOMEBODY ELSE! Al Gore, speaking in Sweden (lefties always go overseas to bash the USA) says that he will NOT run for Prez in 2008. He also decided to describe the wonderful nirvana that Americans missed by electing Bush over Algore in 2000 (WARNING: If you've just eaten something, you might check this article later):http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,171985,00.html

SPEAKING OF STABILITY: The letter from Bin Laden's #2 guy, Ayman Al-Zawahri, confirms much of what I heard behind the scenes in the Middle East two weeks ago. Al Qaeda is not content with only controlling Iraq. And they would have had visions of conquest even if we had done nothing about Saddam. They're drooling over the goal of toppling other"secular" countries including Lebanon, Jordan and Syria... even Saudi Arabia. And they're clearly hoping that the American spirit wanes so the terrorists can assume control once the USA relives the Vietnam experience. Heaven forbid. Here's to hoping President Bush stays the course on the war, and doesn't get swayed by polls.. including one released today that says 58% of those surveyed "are fed up with and tired of the war in Iraq". Democracy, Iraqi style, is growing and will take a giant leap toward increased strength with this Saturday's referendum. That'not not good news for the terrorist creeps. And a media-savvy guy like Al-Zawahri knows it.

DOBSON UPDATE: As much as I respect Dr. James Dobson, I wish he had kept quiet about the faith of Harriet Miers. This debate has now morphed into the type of church-state angle that the ACLU loves. They will try to demonize Bush for viewing everything through a spiritual filter. Dobson has every right to speak, but too often fellow Christians in leadership spots don't think of the timing and PR aspects of their public statements. It's more geared to increasing their donor base or just demonstrating how they are "on the inside". And just because Ms. Miers is now fully "outed" as an evangelical Christian shouldn't be the only reason to blindly support her. Dr. Dobson says he was told other judicial candidates (maybe some I've mentioned would have been better choices) "took themselves out of the running". Maybe so. But personal religious faith is not a 100% guarantee that a person will vote according to their faith-based convictions.
Just look at Mario Cuomo, Teddy Kennedy... Al Gore. Pro-aborts, all, despite their respective churches committment to life. And all are claiming to be people of faith. (Gore, in fact, was a longtime pro-lifer... until he decided to run for higher office. So much for those deep spiritual beliefs.)

SO.. NOW IT'S MY FAULT?

Gotta love it: When we conservatives occasionally critique President Bush, invariably I get calls and emails from people who think WE'RE the problem. A caller to my radio show said that I am "weakening" the Prez by not supporting Harriet Miers. No, it's part of healthy discourse. That's what conservatives do: discuss issues with vigor. Besides, it's GWB who weakened his clout. He built up great momentum through the Roberts process and could have won a fight for a stronger candidate this time byNOT choosing someone too close to home. Janet Rogers Brown would have been a better choice... one of several available, actually. Now Laura Bush is sounding like she's in "quota mode", telling NBC's Today Show that it's possible some critics were being "sexist" in their opposition to Harriet Miers. Wow. As much as I like this President, when we start hearing defenses like this it's time to worry a bit. (Who's pandering to whom.. and why?) Eagle Forum founder Phyliss Schlafly tells me that the chances of Bush withdrawing the nominating (or of Ms. Miers backing out) "increase every day".

ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION? REALLY? Many of us have been pushing for tighter border security for years. For example, my fellow KOGO talk show host Roger Hedgecock began blazing the trail about twenty years ago. We deal with the issue every day on our programs. That's why it's so amusing to watch some national TV personalities acting as if they JUST discovered the problem... their message and attitude implies, "I'm on the job now and I'm here to rescue you". Bunk. Much like Clinton showing up in a disaster zone, biting his bottom lip and and shedding a tear for the camera. Too much posturing, too little action. The only good that comes out of such stunts feigned for ratings is that the message might reach a few more thick-skulls on Capitol Hill. BTW:I was in a meeting in Tom DeLay's office earlier this year and listened to chiefs of staff for many leaders... most clueless about illegal immgration. After an hour an a half of "DC-speak" I was asked, "Mark, what are your listeners concerned about?" I said, "Without a doubt, the illegal immigration issue is huge." One staffer for a U.S. Senator said, "Yes, sure, we'll deal with that when we get these other issues covered". Right. They have to get the truth before it's too late: illegal immigration and border security are THE issue. All others stem from it.

POWER SQUEEZE: Another power outage in Los Angeles causes some Californians to ask, "Gubernor Squat" Davis is gone.. we had the recall and brought Arnold in... why are we still having energy problems?" We need more power plants. And the left is still in control of the California State Assembly and Senate. Unfortunately bad policy lingers long after some "leaders" are gone. Just like judges... appointed years ago by Gov. Moonbean (Jerry Brown), Clinton, Carter.... they keep on legislating from the bench whenever it suits their purposes. The "gift that keeps on giving". Gov. Ahhnold has a tough job. But he's going to surprise the left with big wins on November 8.

THE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT....

SOMETHING DOESN'T SEEM RIGHT: Yes, San Diego City Attorney Mike Aguirre is often right... hey, a stopped watch is accurate twice a day. In the middle of the bombast, he's on target frequently. But I'm wondering just how cozy the relationship is between him, lawyer-for-the-offended-atheist-Paulson McElroy and Judge Patricia Cowett. And there's so much smoke from the City Hall scandal-o-rama but not enough fire (as in "indictments"). Plenty to clean up? Absolutely. Does the mission get lost in the middle of the ego? Probably. BAD PR: Monday October 10th's Wall St. Journal cover story about San Diego's financial woes and City Hall mess.

FLU PANIC: There's reason to be concerned over the news-hype about FLU... and the possibility of "bird flu" jumping to humans. It started with the October National Geographic story entitled "The Next Killer Flu:Can We Stop It?" Implication: Let's make everyone jittery and imply that George W. Bush isn't doing enough. I think there are some people who actually enjoy the thought of an epidemic... starting with some members of the media. (Hey.. why didn't Bush do anything to stop the big quake in Pakistan, eh? Huh???!??)

SPEAKING OF PANIC: Notice how many media outlets are "suddenly" focusing on the real state market? Trying to talk down the market is a new sport among the chattering classes. It's not enough that the economy is strong and many indicators are solid... it's important for the elites to chip away at anything that is positive: This round it's your equity. Don't buy it. Real estate has always been a long term proposition. Be patient. The market cycles around, and is always best in the long run.

TV MINDSET: I've figured it out. Americans are so conditioned by television that they've transferred expectations to EVERYTHING. They want a quick war and resolution in Iraq... they want instant gratification. The news? What else is on? Roger Ailes, guru of Fox News Channel wrote a great book a few years ago called "You Are the Message". All about capturing attention within "twenty minutes". Now it's about twenty seconds. We're too often bored if there's no "final chapter" in a short amount of time. Life becomes a remote control option. It's not, but we think it is.... to our detriment.

TV GUIDE IS AN ALSO-RAN: Speaking of TV, the venerable TV Guide is in its last "old format". This week's issue marks the end of the "small pub" format. Next week, it joins the parade of tabloids in the 8 by 10 format... more useless celeb news, fewer reasons to use the magazine. Sign of the times, yes. Sad transition.. of course.

KUDOS TO THE ANGELS: For knocking the media favorite New York Yankees out of the playoffs. Next stop: Angels beat the White Sox in 6. Padres would have been killed by the Astros. Maybe next year Bochy will stop changing the lineup every 10 seconds.

EVANGELICAL PERSPECTIVE: I'm an evangelical Christian. But I wish Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson would just stay out of the limelight once in a while. Let some of the other good leaders speak. Too often the lust for the camera is too strong for these guys. It doesn't help the cause. And no, I don't blindly support Harriet Miers just because she's a Christian. Bush could have done better. No offense, Harriet. I'm tired of Christians being marginalized in the media.

ENTER THE BLOGOSPHERE!

Welcome to my new (long awaited) BLOG! Yes, here it is... a DAILY (or "whenever I feel like it") UPDATE: My personal musings on issues of the day, behind the scenes stories, sneak previews... assorted tidbits you'll want to know about. We'll also supply links to key news and personalities, background briefings you'll want to absorb, photos... and lots of things we simply can't get into the daily KOGO radio show. (Typos are included at NO EXTRA CHARGE!)

OFF TO THE FUTURE: Of course this destroys any goofy idea I might have concerning a future career in politics! Imagine the "e-paper trail" here! Hey, consider how Washington, DC would be swirling at a new level of lunacy if Harriet Miers had been consistently blogging. (BTW: Bush could do better in his pick for the Supremes. Prediction: He'll withdraw her nomination... but if he swaps for Alberto Gonzales, you ain't seen nothing yet when it comes to conservative wrath.)

SPEAKING OF OUTRAGE: Judge Patricia Cowett's decision on the Mt. Soledad War Memorial (or as she loves to call in, "The Latin Cross") is reprehensible. Proof positive of the Left's control of many courtrooms. Did McElroy and Aguirre help her draft her ruling. Egad. Well, the battle's not over. Big question: Did Cowett craft her ruling in a premeditated way to block any appeal? (What's that smell? A whiff of "recall" in the air, hmm?)

IS IT JUST ME?: Or has "Saturday Night Live" ceased to be funny and pointed about 98% of the time? I'm finding "Meet The Press" much more amusing, especially with the drama: When will Russert's bloating-ala-Teddy-Kennedy face fill the entire picture, even on the most gargantuan plasma screens? Do liberals really think we're buying their same-ol-same-ol from their dusty playbooks?

60 MINUTES SENSITIVITY: Clinton still yanks chains and gets the old-stream media to do his bidding. Former FBI Director Louis Freeh's explosive interview with Mike Wallace gets a sort of equal-time treatement from the bloodshot-eye network. They're giving Sandy Burglar (Berger... he of "sorry your honor, I filled my pants with National Archives secrets and I'll never do it again" fame) TIME TO RESPOND to Freeh's damning allegations about Bubba. Good grief.
